Christopher John "Chris" Tarrant OBE (born 10 October 1946) is an English radio and television broadcaster, now best known for hosting the first version of the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in the United Kingdom, as the two national versions of the show merged in 2002.

CareerEdit

Tarrant hosted the original British version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire since it first aired in 1998 until it ended in 2014, hosting all broadcast episodes. He is known for coining several catchphrases, the most famous two examples being "Is that your final answer?" and "We don't want to give you that!". Regis Philbin on the U.S. show later used the former as his main catchphrase, and other international hosts have used variations of the quote; for example, Eddie McGuire (currently hosting Australia's Hot Seat) and "Lock it in?".

He married his first wife, Sheila, in 1971, but they divorced in 1982. In 1991, Tarrant married his second wife, Ingrid Tarrant, in 1991, but it also ended in divorce in 2007.

Tarrant got his big break on ITV kids' show Tiswas between 1974-1982 featuring Lenny Henry and Sally James. Tarrant also hosted O.T.T., billed as an adult version of Tiswas, in 1982, after Tiswas itself ended.

In October 2013, Tarrant announced he was to step down as host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? after 15 years, thus ITV decided to cancel the show. The show's final episode aired in February 2014, with a clip show called "Chris' Final Answer" airing a week later.

Other shows he has hosted include the Colour of Money (2009), Lose a Million (1993) and The Door (2010).
