James Plaskett (born Dhekelia, Cyprus, 18 March 1960), a Chess Grandmaster who had made 4 unsuccessful appearances before in 1999, 2000, 2004 and 2005, got in to the hot seat in 2006 and won £250,000. Since 2004 he has been writing in vigorous defense of Charles Ingram being innocent which led to a collaboration book with Bob Woffinden called 'Bad Show'. He became the sixth person on the show after Martin Skillings, Ben Bartle, Gerry Lennon, Diane Hallagan, and Rob Mitchell to get up to £125,000 and have all 3 lifelines, and (as of 2007) was the last one to do so.

| James really didn't know this so he used the first lifeline and phoned his wife, Fiona Pitt Kethley, who gave the answer of Shoemakers but said he should use other lifelines. James went 50:50 which left Shoemakers and Clockmakers, still unsure he asked the audience. 62% said Shoemakers, 38% said Clockmakers. James went for it but before revealing if he was right or wrong Chris took a cliffhanger break. When he came back, it was revealed Shoemakers was correct and he won £250,000. But he had used up all 3 lifelines. |
