• Kaushik Saha is first male contestant in India, who on 1st question the Audience Poll lifeline used and went home with nothing.
• Ganesh Shinde is first contestant to answer the Top Prize question wrong. Two days later, R J Sarma repeated this feat.
• According to British host Chris Tarrant, before the first show, Hindu priests were brought into the studio to "ring little bells" and bless the set. Everyone, even the Celador officials attending to guide the premiere, were given a bindi (a red dot worn on the centre of the forehead).
