He held the record for the largest single win in United States game show history, until it was broken by John Carpenter who won $1,000,000 almost 3 months later.

He would also later appear on the show on October 31, 2000 and on the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? 10th Anniversary Primetime Celebration as an audience member.

Prior to appearing on Millionaire, Michael was a 4-time champion on Jeopardy! in 1988, winning $49,200 and just missing out on the Tournament of Champions. [1]The person who just beat him out, Ron Trigueiro, also appeared on Millionaire, walking away with $125,000.
