Lifelines[]

Trivia[]

  • The upper lighting was moved again for this series. Until the set was changed in 2011 and the revival in 2018, all upper lighting were in places behind the main studio area. The only likely reason for this would be to prevent any lighting falling on top of audience members, which may have been a risk in the first two series.
    • The only changes that would be made after this point would be the type of lights used and the speed they would be moved in the course of an episde (from Series 4 through to Series 9, this lighting would move at a slower pace in tune with the music, until it was made to be consistent with the entrance to studio lighting).
  • This series would mark the last time that the hot seat computer screens would have a £1 million case attached. From Series 4, it was removed, presumably as an attempt to cut costs on having security on set to monitor the case.
  • 9 contestants have reached to highest amount of money (£125,000) question, three were right, three were wrong, and three walked away.
    • The only contestant who reached to the £64,000 question without reaching to the £125,000 question was Richard Hale.
  • In 6th episode, for the second time the majority of the audience give of a wrong answer.
  • Tony Kennedy was asked the UK's first bad question for £64,000. He answered incorrectly, but was accepted as a right answer.
    • This was revealed this next day by newspaper 'The Sun', but the show allowed Tony to keep his winnings.
  • Sheridan Booth won £500 on 9th March 1999, but lost it after it was revealed that he had a criminal record, making him unable to play.
    • This means that Cheryl Turner remained the only person to win £500 on Millionaire in the UK.
    • Andrew Lavelle also lost his winnings for having a criminal record. He had won £16,000.
  • Mark Mills is the only contestant this series who reached to the second landmark with all 3 lifelines intact.
  • In this series, two contestants named Martin Smith appeared in Fastest Finger First and made it to the hot seat - 1st from Hertfordshire on 2nd episode and 2nd from East Yorkshire on 9th episode.
  • Total winnings - £824,000 without Sheridan Booth and Andrew Lavelle's stripped winnings.
