Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: 2012 Edition is a video game based off of the U.S. version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.

Gameplay

The gameplay is based off of the shuffle format which the show was using at the time. The game has the option to have 1 or 2 players. There are two rounds and players are given two Jump the Question lifelines at the start of the game.

In Round 1, there are 10 questions with values of $100; $500; $1,000; $2,000; $3,000; $5,000; $7,000; $8,000; $9,000 and $10,000. The questions and values are randomized before the start of the game and, when they answer a question correctly, the value hidden behind that question gets added to their bank. The maximum amount of money a player can bank is $45,600 while the minimum is $26,600. At the end of Round 1, the player is given the Ask the Audience lifeline, but the two Jumps are taken away.

In Round 2, there are 4 more questions with values of $100,000; $250;000; $500,000 and $1,000,000. For the $100,000 question, $100,000 gets added to the bank for a correct answer, but for the other 3 questions, that $100,000 gets augmented to each question's value. For example, if a player has $37,600 and answers the $100,000 question correctly, $100,000 will be added to their bank for a total of $137,600. Then, if they answer the $250,000 question, that $100,000 will be increased to $250,000, for a total of $287,600. An incorrect answer will drop them down to $25,000.

Players who manage to answer the last question can win anything from $1,026,600 to $1,045,600.

Trivia

  • The show as portrayed in the game is different form the TV version in the following ways:
    • The lifelines are the same, but all three were given at the start of the game and, if are not used in Round 1, get carried over to Round 2.
    • The TV version did not have values of $8,000 and $9,000 in Round 1. It instead had $15,000 and $25,000.
    • For the $100,000 question, the contestant's bank would get augmented to $100,000 for a correct answer. $100,000 did not get added to the bank.
